Digital Agriculture
For more than 10 years, Sysman is investing in R&D in Digital Agriculture thanks to several projects carried out with Research Institutes and Universities in Italy and Europe.
Digital Grape
Sysman is part of the Digital Grape project “New Digital Technologies and Decision Support Systems for the improvement of quality and sustainability in viticulture” funded under the PSR Puglia 2014-2020. Measure 16 – Cooperation. Sub-measure 16.2 “Support for pilot projects and the development of new products, practices, processes and technologies” (https://psr.regione.puglia.it/sottomisura-16.2 ). The project addresses the need to apply new digital and precision technologies, in order to support the improvement of food sustainability, quality and safety with particular reference to the wine sector and table grapes, through a regional technological platform that makes the various technological tools and the available know-how (warning systems, models, agro-weather forecasts, databases, satellite data, etc.), for the management of the main agronomic and phytosanitary inputs, product quality control and traceability of processes.
The project is divided into eight tasks:
- Integration of technological systems and development of the digital services platform;
- Agro-meteorological monitoring networks and agro-climatic indicators;
- DSS and satellite maps for the management of variable rate interventions on wine vines;
- Applications for phytosanitary monitoring, warning systems and risk maps;
- Evaluation of models for the prediction of phytosanitary risk on vines;
- Implementation of DSS for the management of irrigation and fertilization on table grapes;
- Calibration of “proximal” sensors and models for evaluating grape quality;
application of “blockchain” and RFID technologies for the traceability of supply chains.
Riusiamo
Sysman is part of the project RIUSIAMO – Irrigation Districts for a sustainable reuse of purified wastewater: a concrete opportunity for Apulian farms – funded under the PSR Puglia 2014-2020. Measure 16 – Cooperation. Sub-measure 16.2 “Support for pilot projects and the development of new products, practices, processes and technologies” (https://psr.regione.puglia.it/sottomisura-16.2 ).
RIUSIAMO born from the need to provide arid areas like Capitana one, with a new irrigation source, taking advantage of innovative technologies for monitoring and planning adequate irrigation strategies.
Among the objectives of the project are
- Irrigation districts
An irrigation district will be created, in which the refined and traditional waters will be used for irrigation thanks to a common distribution network - Water monitoring
The monitoring of refined wastewater will take place thanks to innovative sensors and technologies, to guarantee its safety at all times! - Acceptability and training
Social acceptability of the new irrigation source and training of new professional figures are fundamental to ensure the reuse of wastewater!
SoillessGO
Sysman is part of the project SOILLESSGO – Environmental sustainability, Process and product innovations for the competitiveness of Soilless crops in Puglia – Operational Group – funded under the PSR Puglia 2014-2020. Measure 16 – Cooperation. Sub-measure 16.2 “Support for pilot projects and the development of new products, practices, processes and technologies” (https://psr.regione.puglia.it/sottomisura-16.2 ).
The Operational Group operates in response to specific needs, expressed by local actors in the soilless sector, connected with the introduction of innovative technologies for more efficient use of resources, to innovate processes and products, evaluate the economic advantages deriving from adoption of innovations and consolidate the position of the products on the market.
Through extensive testing and demonstration activities, the project will transfer technologies, know-how and skills to farmers and technicians operating in protected horticulture and soilless crops. In order to maximize impacts, the project aims implementing its activities at partner companies with experimentation, testing and training activities aimed at personnel, as well as at the structures of the research centers involved. This is realized in particular reference to ‘La Noria’ Experimental Company, in order to strengthen and enhance its role as an innovation hub in the sector of protected crops and soilless production systems in Puglia.
DemetraDSS
Sysman is part of the project DEMETRA DSS – MEtagenomic identification of sources of contamination by niTRAtes – Operational Group – funded under the PSR Puglia 2014-2020. Measure 16 – Cooperation. Sub-measure 16.2 “Support for pilot projects and the development of new products, practices, processes and technologies” (https://psr.regione.puglia.it/sottomisura-16.2 ).
The DEMETRA DSS project was born within the PSR Puglia 2014-2020 projects, Measure 16.2, with the intention of tackling the “nitrate issue”, alongside the local farms, thanks to the use of innovative IT supports.
The main objectives of the project are:
- Metagenomics
A new analysis technique that allows the identification of specific sequences of the microbial genome, through which it is possible to trace the source of the contamination - IT technology
With specific IT solutions it is possible to support both farmers and institutions, creating a territorial platform where to bring together company and sampling data, for a better drafting of administrative procedures and for the traceability of agricultural reuse compounds. - Farms and companies
ZVN farmers are personally involved, and will benefit from a service that does not facilitate the fulfillment of legal obligations, but capable of providing “best practices” based on the current contamination situation
E-crops
PON MIUR e-CROPS led by the CNR-IBE, financed as part of industrial research and experimental development projects in the areas of intelligent specialization envisaged by the PNR (National Research Programme).
In particular, the project develops remote sensing technologies including EO (Earth Observation with satellite images) and images from multispectral sensors from drones and self-driving aircraft.
The goal of E-crops is to innovate cultivation processes by enhancing the strategic value of data, whether they are observations of phenomena or the result of measurement or analysis technologies.
Precision agriculture already helps some supply chains, first and foremost the wine sector, to manage some cultivation processes. However, very often it is limited to monitoring the spatial variability of the vegetative state, which is indirectly linked to the state of health of the plant and its water or nutritional demand. E-crops wants to promote a decisive leap in quality with respect to this context, pushing forward the ability to observe and analyze thanks to the integration of ‘sensing’ and ‘phenotyping’.
Smartwater
- Enhance the capacity building and human resources development of UNI–BL and other BiH institutions;
- Strengthen networking between UNI–BL, EU Institutions and other BH and Balkan Institutions;
- Setting-up a smart scientific strategy in the field of sustainable agricultural water management, for stepping up and stimulating scientific excellence and innovation capacity of UNI-BL and other BH Institutions;
- Adoption/accomplishment of an effective smart communication/dissemination strategy for adequate promotion of twinning activities and ensuring the expected impacts at regional, national, EU and global level.
